✨Meet Alukazam: The Enchanting Magic of Luke Robson

Updated: Jun 14

Greetings, fellow magic enthusiasts and Steel Cauldron patrons!

We are thrilled to introduce you to one of our most enchanting magicians, Luke Robson, known to many as the mesmerizing Alukazam. I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Luke to delve into his magical journey, his passion for performance, and the spellbinding shows he has lined up for us. Here’s a glimpse into the world of Alukazam.

A Journey from Splendiferous Beginnings

Luke’s magical journey began in his childhood, performing as "Luke the Splendiferous" until the age of 12. After a long hiatus, his passion for magic reignited in his late twenties. He recalls a family dinner where he performed a few impromptu tricks, sparking a frustration with how much he had forgotten and a renewed determination to rebuild his magical repertoire. Within a year, Luke had his first paid booking and was fully immersed in the world of magic once again.

The Inspiration Behind the Magic

Luke’s initial interest in magic was driven by a curiosity to understand how it worked. This curiosity soon evolved into a desire to perform and bring joy to others. “I can’t sing or dance, but I can make people smile through magic,” Luke explains. He loves the varied reactions that magic can evoke, from laughter to astonishment. His approach is always to make the spectator feel like the magic is happening because of them, enhancing the wonder and delight of the experience.

Magic at the Cauldron

At the Steel Cauldron, Alukazam is a beloved figure. Whether he’s performing close-up magic or captivating audiences with his shows, he always finds ways to involve the audience, especially the young wizards in training. Using wands and simple props, he creates moments of magic that children take home with them, memories of making a ball vanish or a lemon appear right before their eyes.

Luke advises aspiring young wizards to attend a Wizard School session at the Cauldron and to watch lots of magic performances on YouTube. However, he cautions against watching explanation videos, emphasizing that magic is about the performance and the wonder it creates, rather than just the method behind it.

The Many Faces of Alukazam

Alukazam is known for his versatile performances and his ability to transform into various magical personas. At the Cauldron, he often dons a full beard and pointy hat or a fantastical robe, but he also enjoys performing in 1940s or Victorian attire for themed events. However, there is something uniquely special about embodying the character of a wizard, creating an enchanting atmosphere that captivates audiences of all ages.

Upcoming Shows and Magical Moments

We are excited to announce that Alukazam will be performing at the Dorothy Pax next week (June 18th) and will be gracing the Cauldron with several shows across the summer (watch this space for dates). You can catch his family shows on specific weekends and enjoy his parlour shows in the evenings.
